Financing the New Library

Cost of the New Library

The cost of the entire project including furnishings, landscaping and temporary relocation of the library is $9.2 million.

The tax cost for an average house valued at $345,000 will be $48.08, for the first year, decreasing each year for 20 years.

The Funding of the New Library

The Trustees have applied for a library construction grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners that would cover more than 50% of the cost or $4.7 million. The Trustees will not move forward on this plan unless the grant is awarded.

At the 2011 town meeting, a vote to approve an additional $4.5 million will take place.

Donors, both individual and corporate, will be sought to reduce the amount of the town’s contribution.
